This is the second post in a series about my family room shiplap fireplace redo. You can read the first post here.
Armed with the inspiration for my shiplap fireplace redo, I thought I was ready to pull the trigger and get started. But then panic struck – I realized that all the shiplap photos I’d been ogling featured bright white wood. The woodwork in my house – including my kitchen cabinets and family room built-ins – is all a creamy warm white from Benjamin Moore called Navajo White.
Changing the paint color over to a truer white like Decorator’s White was tantalizing, but also not in the cards at that moment for myriad reasons (read: time, money, fear, money). So, I set the project aside and thought about other lock-down endeavors to undertake. Like hardware. But, my mind kept drifting back to the shiplap mantel I saw in that gorgeous model home. I decided to do some research (Google) to see if shiplap could be painted in other hues. And if I liked the effect.
To my delight, the answer was a resounding, yes! I found lots of beautiful pictures of shiplap done in all different colors and I loved the look as much as the Joanna-Gaines-crisp-white-version. Here are some of my finds:
I even found some photos of shiplap done in more of an off-white similar to my own paint color, which sealed the deal for me and assured me I could move on with my project.
The bathroom above is done in Sherwin Williams Alabaster and the mudroom/entry below could be Navajo White – it is very close to my own trim.
Let me know what you think of shiplap done in unconventional colors. Or if you’ve veered from the mainstream and painted it something other than white – I’d love to know!
