‘Bringing the outdoors in’ is so passé. Bring the inside outside – that’s where’s it’s truly at. When our family looks to get away in a summer rental, the outdoor shower is the box everyone wants checked. Everything else we can live without, but somehow, the outdoor shower is synonymous with vacation. So, why not bring some of that vacation mojo to your 365-day home? Congratulations, you are planning your kitchen remodel! You are about to embark on a journey to create the kitchen of your dreams. Chances are you’ve been thinking about this for a while and maybe have a picture in your mind’s eye of what your new kitchen will look like. You might even have a Pinterest board full of beauty shots of other kitchens.
That’s a great start, but now that you have decided to go ahead with the remodel, it’s time to really get into the details of what goes into a kitchen and organize your selections. (more…)

My dad, in his day, was extraordinarily handy, always fiddling in his shop. As a kid, it seemed a weird hobby; as a homeowner now – a priceless skill set. Every Father’s Day, we would set out to find him the next greatest tool…the one that would change his life. That, and the requisite white tube socks and t-shirts. I later married a man who would turn out to be equally skilled this way. Oddly, he requests socks and t-shirts too. To the point at hand though, let’s talk tools for dad.
With the dads’ help and the input of This Old House and Tools of the Trade, I’ve compiled a list of tools the handy dad might enjoy adding to his collection. This is a general list, not intended for any specialties, but does presume some experience with tool handling. I’ve tried to include some at varying price points. (more…)
Its raining again… in June… and it feels like April. Despair not though. Because, if you can see beyond the sheets of rain, you’ll see lush vegetation. Fifty degree temperatures aside, it feels like we’ve tripped to the rain forest. So, your lawn looks like Fenway. Good for you!
