We finally packed up the remnant ocean blues of summer and made fall introductions. The porch was initially reluctant to bid its vibrant friend adieu but soon warmed to the golden mums and burnished reds of autumn. When decorating outside, I go for bright. I realize many prefer the muted tones of whites and pale greens that pair nicely with that farmhouse aesthetic and I myself appreciate those color options inside where I have to work with the mess I already own. Outside though, I can be bold.
I also truly appreciate the traditional colors of fall. They are nostalgic for me. If I swapped out my brazen pumpkin for an all white and green gourd look, I’d miss the majesty of the season. In hanging these corn stalks, I also covered our address. Pretty but not practical. So, this big guy will temporarily inform passers-by where we are.
I ran out of urns for my gourd tower! I opted for this plant stand instead. Come Halloween though, the tower will be moved away so that shrieking children don’t topple it in their clamor to get to the goods.
Truth: all spring and summer I’m jealous of your pale blue and soft yellow front doors. I wait patiently for fall and winter to circle back and lay claim to the red front door that so nicely offsets the gold and green of those seasonal wreaths. I’ll mourn your door no more. Until April.
I found this vintage scale some time ago and expected to use it in our remodeled pantry. It was too large for the space though. Loaded with a couple pumpkins and hollow gourds, its a great front porch addition. Temporarily, it hangs to the left of the front door. Eventually, it will find its way back into the house into a more permanent home.
Our front porch swing greets everyone who rolls up or runs to the house. I’ll sit and wait for the kids on the swing, the kids will sit and wait for their rides on the swing, and neighbors are sometimes forced to wait for all of us on the swing. We want it to be a welcoming place. These kilim pillows are cozy and autumnal in coloring. Though I appreciate the pillows with warm sentiments, they can be overwhelming in my estimation. The bright colors of fall speak for themselves without requiring signage to inform the season. That said, I can never remember what day it is. So, with a grain of salt I suppose…
