Man Caves
Father’s Day is this weekend and we thought it would be fun to look at spaces just for Dad – man caves as they’ve become known as in modern parlance.
There are many key elements that define a man cave and usually consist of some combination of comfy seating, if it reclines all the better (La-Z-Boy is having a Father’s Day sale on recliners – affiliate link); the biggest flat screen that fits in your space along with it’s younger cousin, the surround sound system; a bar or facsimile (bar cart, mini fridge, whatever is in the budget); and, finally some sort of game (darts, billiards, etc.).
With all the basics in place, we wanted to look at some other elements that will elevate the masculine experience for the man in your life.
Wood Accents
Nothing says manly like wood. The more rustic, the better! Whether you add a little or a lot, wood adds a warmth to the room that appeals to both sexes.
Use a little planking behind a dart board or hoop, or fill an entire wall with rough sawn boards. We guarantee your guy won’t be disappointed.
Collections
If your husband is like mine, chances are he has a collection of stuff somewhere in the house. Think outside of the box and find a way to incorporate them into his man cave design. Whether its a collection of license plates, bottle caps, wine corks, beer brand coasters, sports memorabilia or concert tickets – it can find a new life as part of the man cave decor.
We liked these ideas: on the stairs, built into the bar top, or back splash.
Recycling
Don’t be afraid to add some whimsy and interest to the space – it’s an uber-informal place after all. We thought these ideas for decor were cool, with the added bonus that they are good for the environment 🙂
And as an added bonus, grab this man cave print in our resource library to frame for the wall! The bottom line is to have fun with it and let it reflect the man it is going to serve.
Happy Father’s Day!
