Shiplap Fireplace Paint Color

This is the second post in a series about my family room shiplap fireplace redo. You can read the first post here.

Armed with the inspiration for my shiplap fireplace redo, I thought I was ready to pull the trigger and get started. But then panic struck – I realized that all the shiplap photos I’d been ogling featured bright white wood. The woodwork in my house – including my kitchen cabinets and family room built-ins – is all a creamy warm white from Benjamin Moore called Navajo White.

Loose Ends: ORC Week 6

We are into week six of the One Room Challenge, an online design event started by Linda at the blog Calling It Home, that challenges featured designers and guest bloggers to re-imagine one space in the span of six weeks (this time the challenge was extended to seven weeks due to the storms and wildfires). Black Banister: ORC Week 4

Do you ever make a decision and then secretly agonize over it? It happened to me with this week’s task for the One Room Challenge. As you know, I decided to paint my handrail in my foyer to transform it from an orange-y oak to a black banister. I have been seeing it on all the design shows, in shelter porn and online – and loving it. But ever since making the decision (and declaring it here on the blog) I have been fretting that (a) the paint won’t stay on or (b) it will look terrible. Mostly I’ve worried about (b). Paint It Black: ORC Week 2

I see a red door and I want it painted black. OK maybe it wasn’t red, but it was white and now its black and I love it. The first thing on my list for the One Room Challenge was the interior of our front door. And all I can say is, if you want to create drama in a space, the Rolling Stones were right, take a door and paint it black.
