I feel like summer just ended a couple of days ago and suddenly the holidays are upon us! Even though it snuck up on me, I am really looking forward to the holidays this year after last year’s socially distanced version. For me that means planning lots of family time and activities, cleaning, prepping, shopping and wrapping. It’s the shopping that’s on my mind lately. And especially, shopping for the men in my life – of which there are many. I need gifts for boys! With a husband and three sons in the house, I’ve got to get into the male mindset to figure out what Santa should bring this year.

And I recently came across two fantastic examples of homes that are making the most of their “short”-comings, so I thought I would create an update with these two beauties to inspire others with vertically challenged homes. The following houses are proof positive that you don’t need soaring ceilings to create a stunning home. Plus there is a lot to be said for the coziness lower ceilings create. (more…)Interior doors are the unsung heroes of our homes. It’s true they play many functional roles – they offer privacy, provide sound dampening, and (maybe most importantly!) hide messes. But, they are also a design element that allows you to augment your personal style. Often they are chosen by the contractor when he builds the home – sometimes with little forethought other than cost. If you are lucky enough to have a say in door selection – perhaps you are building a custom home or remodeling – read on to learn how to choose interior doors.

Armed with the inspiration for my shiplap fireplace redo, I thought I was ready to pull the trigger and get started. But then panic struck – I realized that all the shiplap photos I’d been ogling featured bright white wood. The woodwork in my house – including my kitchen cabinets and family room built-ins – is all a creamy warm white from Benjamin Moore called Navajo White.
